Have you been debating a character to app? Are you wondering how they would interact in the setting? Have you had difficulty writing samples for an application or are worried that you can't maintain their characterization? Are you unsure if someone would make a better inmate than a warden? Voice test any characters that you have been thinking of bringing to the Barge here. Tag in with a starter for other characters to respond to. This meme will be held on the 30th of each month. Warden apps are currently closed, but TDMing wardens is still welcome.
Wardens come to the Barge because they have been invited by the Admiral. They will not be confused about where they are or what they are doing, and they do not have to have died before their arrival. They will have vague memories of an interview with a mysterious figure who offered them a deal: in exchange for helping to redeem a lost soul, their dearest wish can be granted.
Wardens have an item that will open the doors to the Upper Deck as well as any other general Warden-locked area on the Barge.
Inmates are villains, baddies and miscreants who need help to turn away from the bad path that they are on. They have been snatched up by the Admiral immediately after their death (which can be headcanoned if no canon death exists). Although Inmates can have been given the choice of whether to come to the Barge instead of dying, they can also have been brought against their will with no idea of what the Barge is or what is going on.
Inmate powers are restricted until they get a permanent Warden willing to restore them and they will not have any of their usual weapons on arrival, although they can steal, borrow, or otherwise procure weapons from others.
Both Warden and Inmate characters will be provided with a communicator that gives them access to the Barge network on arrival. These devices are smartphone-like, with full audio, visual and text functions as well as an emoji library. Characters are identified on network posts by a communicator ID rather than name or user icon, but they cannot change their communicator ID, so they will lose anonymity once they give their name. It is possible for new characters to read old posts or messages, but private posts or comments cannot be viewed except by using the communicator of someone with access.
You are welcome to use past events on the Barge as tag prompts or invent your own event. Barge events come in three flavors:
Floods are on-Barge events where some aspect of normal game life is changed. Characters might be forced to tell the truth, alien creatures might appear, memories might be brought to life, wardens and inmates might stick magnetically to each other, etc. Past flood posts can be found here.
Breaches are off-Barge events where characters are AU'd into another setting, such as a space station, Hallmark movie, sword and sorcery epic, etc. Past breach posts can be found here.
Ports are off-Barge events in which the Barge stops in a new world and characters can voluntarily leave the ship to explore the world. Note: Inmate characters need their Warden's permission to leave the ship for a port. Past port posts can be found here.
- As this meme is for voice testing, make sure all characters are compliant with the rules and the setting.
- This is not a 4th wall post. Treat your characters as if they are already a part of the game as either inmates or wardens.
- Threads will not count as game canon by default (though they may if all players involved are in agreement and no game events are invented for the thread), but they can be linked to and used as samples on your application.
- You are welcome to use past events for thread prompts, but if you plan to use the thread as a sample, remember to keep the character's original personality and voice.
- You can come back and find this meme under the voice test tag.

Eva Stratt | Project Hail Mary | warden
Is this person's name really "Moon Knight System"?
[She'll ask, pointing to a name in the ledger. Or, maybe, pointing to another one:]
This isn't Skye Riley the pop star, is it?
[And then, of course, there's the matter of keeping close tabs on Ryland Grace.
She gives him plenty of space in person, and she asks no one for information about him - but public network posts seem like completely fair game, so whenever she sees him pop up there in one form or another, she devours it. Her motives here are twofold. Firstly and most importantly, he has a ton of knowledge that she really, really needs - and given that the alternative here would be dragging him into a multi-hour interrogation session that would, by all appearances, provoke a major panic attack, this seems like the kinder solution (and it's honestly really nice to have the luxury of choosing kindness, for once). Much of the time, she does this in the privacy of her cabin, but not always: she never knows when she's going to see him pop up in someone's post, so she can sometimes be spotted in an out-of-the-way corner out in public somewhere, attention glued to her communicator as she takes careful handwritten notes.
Or, rather, she usually takes notes. Sometimes she's wrung out; sometimes she's frustrated; sometimes she's having a bad day. Sometimes, there's no useful information being conveyed, and no reason to write anything down - but he's grinning as he talks animatedly to someone, or his fascinating alien buddy shows up, or he's explaining what it's like to live on another planet. Sometimes, she just watches because it's nice to have the reminder: this one thing, no matter how terribly and unforgivably it started, worked out okay in the end.]

"Really?"

god what a good username.
And what, Simon. And what! Truthfully, he is but a lost duckling, and Eva is very his-mentor-shaped: an older redhead of severe countenance, operating in the context of a terrible thought experiment that ought to have remained a thought.

She plonks down next to Stratt on the bench, a bottle of water in hand because she has only just finished washing up after a swim and is still thirsty from the exercise. ]

Ciel Phantomhive | Kuroshitsuji | Inmate
And that means....... Oh, what did he do this time? It really isn't Ciel's fault. Is it? He did make sure to give the right orders beforetime just in case.]
[For now, he approaches the closest face around - familiar or not - and opens with a simple question.]
Do you know if a lot of people were killed recently?
Re: Ciel Phantomhive | Kuroshitsuji | Inmate
[Seeing Ciel, her expression goes through a number of phases and- ends up on relief. Even if she wanted to really, really just wanted to pull Ciel into a hug, she didn't.]

Also, Sebastian kept himself in check, this time. It would have been uncouth to do the same thing twice.
[More seriously, letting his overly cheerful smile slip:] It's good to see you again, Ciel.

Simon Wolf | Uncommon Charm | warden
We're midway through an audio transcript after a good five minutes of buildup—something about ethics in theoretical situations. Imagine it for yourself: Simon's voice is warm and genial. He talks at greater length than anticipated, but lapses sometimes into a murmur. Finally, he arrives at the point.]
So what I meant to ask was... if you can't reference the moon, specifically Earth's moon, how d'you know how long the day is, and when do you light the candles for Shabbat? Because the problem isn't "how do you figure that" in abstract, it's "how do I," right now. I can't be the first to ask, surely. And is there anyone here who— who would know? Specifically?
I can manage on my own, of course. But
[Whatever it sounds like when a man painlessly, instantaneously becomes a flock of birds, and THE SUDDEN, DEAFENING THRUM OF THOUSANDS OF STARLINGS IN FLIGHT.]
[The next five minutes of the transcript have been omitted, but it contains bursts of distressed birdsong, shrieks, and the sound of something crashing into a wall.]
[burble, babble, crooooaaaaaak]'m so sorry. I am... so, so sorry. If someone could. I. My left arm's still out there. Keep the cat away from those?

Negan Smith | The Walking Dead (TV) | Inmate af
[The last thing he remembers is the shard of stained glass slicing across his throat. He remembers going down and their doctor trying to stop it.
And then suddenly he's here. Not dead. Lying on his back, his hand at his throat.
His first thought is Lucille. He reaches for her and the room is empty, so he pushes himself up and staggers out into the hall.
A narrow hall. Doors on both sides.]
Where is she?!
[His voice is weak. A rasp. But he's livid.]
Give her back to me!
[Smart money is laying low. But he's not going to do that while they have Lucille away from him. These fuckers are going to regret not locking him up.]
[Network]
[There's a grinning man on screen. For a moment he just savors the fact he's holding real tech in his hands.]
Well hel-lo, my captors and fellow captees. Things are about to get real interesting if someone would just tell me what the hell is going on. Give me the 411, let's gossip.
